Former Ireland international Jared Payne joined Munster Rugby as Assistant Coach ahead of the 2026/27 season on a two-year deal where he will share attack responsibilities with Mossy Lawler. 

A 20-cap Ireland international, Payne retired from playing in 2018 at the age of 32 due to injury.

He immediately transitioned into coaching and was Defence Coach at Ulster between 2018 and 2022 before moving to Top14 side Clermont Auvergne for the 2022/23 season.

Payne has spent the past three years on the Scarlets coaching team, initially joining as Backs and Attack Coach before later overseeing the defence programme.

He enjoyed an illustrious playing career that saw him line out for the Chiefs, Crusaders and Blues in Super Rugby before moving to Ireland in 2011.

He played for Ulster for seven years and made his Ireland debut in November 2014 before lining out for the British & Irish Lions in 2017.
