Born in San Diego educated in PBC and UCC, he won a senior cup medal with the former and an U20 medal with the latter.
In 1997 he joined Cork Con and won his first Ireland Under 21 cap (v Scotland). The following year he steered the U21s to a Triple Crown win.
In 2008 he landed the drop goal that saw Ireland beat Wales to win the Grand Slam and later that year made his third trip with the Lions.
When it comes to records he holds nearly them all - Ireland's all time leading points scorer; leading Six Nations points scorer 2005/06/07; Heineken Cup records points holder; Munster's leading points scorer. He's played in 4 Heineken Cup finals.
