Munster Academy Year: Two

Position: Centre

School: PBC

Club: Dolphin RFC

Honours: Ireland U18 Schools 2011; Ireland U20s 2013; Munster U20s 2012 & 2011

Rory was promoted from the sub academy to the academy programme at the start of the 2013/14 season and is younger brother of former Ireland U20s Captain Niall Scannell who has been promoted from the academy to a development contract.

From Cork the 19 year old centre played his schools rugby with PBC and now plays his club rugby with Dolphin.

Rory started in all of the 2013 Irish U20s 6 Nation games, demonstrating his versatility by moving to the unfamiliar role of out-half for the England game.

Scannell played an instrumental role in the U20s Junior World Championship in France in June, featuring in every game, starting at fullback in the opening game against Australia.  He also added 2 conversions and 8 penalties during the campaign.

He has represented the Munster U20s for the last two seasons and has previously played for Ireland U18 Schools with Ryan Murphy in 2011 when they won the FIRA-AER European Championship.

Played for a Munster 7’s side at the Limerick World Club 7s Festival in Thomond Park, August 2014.

Represented the Munster senior team in pre-season action, August 2014 - away to Gloucester and a week later in the SEAT Challenge against London Irish at the Waterford RSC.
