From Nenagh Co Tipperary, has represented Ireland at Youth (U18) level and U21 level. In the summer 2009 he played with both the Ireland senior international squad and the Churchill Cup squad.
Won Munster's Player of the Year award for his impressive contribution throughout the 2011/12 season.
Was one of the stand out players in Ireland's June 2012 three Test trip to New Zealand.
Injured a knee in Munster's win over Gloucester at Thomond Park in October which means he will miss Ireland's autumn internationals.
Signed a new three-year deal with the IRFU in late 2013 that will keep him at Munster until at least June 2017.
Returned to start away to Perpignan in December but missed the end of 2013 and the start of 2014 with a niggling knee issue. Regained full fitness in February 2014 and started against Zebre at Musgrave Park.
Called into the Ireland Six Nations squad midway through the 2014 Championship but did not play.
Injured a toe in his right foot in March 2014 against Benetton Treviso, an injury that kept him sidelined until March the following year where he made a return to competitive action against Ospreys. Went on to make 7 appearances before the end of the season including 5 starts.
A busy 2015/16 saw the Munsterman feature for Ireland in the Rugby World Cup, 6 Nations and Summer Tour to South Africa.
