From Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, Foley played a central role in Munster's run to the inaugural British & Irish Cup final in 2010, the same season he won his first senior cap as a second year academy member.

At the start of the 2010/11 season he secured a development contract and moved to a full senior contract the following season where he saw limited game time due to injury.

He began the 2012/13 pre-season rehabbing, and made a return for the pre-season games against Bristol Rugby and London Irish in Musgrave Park.

In addition to his 10 RaboDirect PRO12 appearances in 2012/13 Foley made seven appearances in the British & Irish Cup.

Foley was named in the Emerging Ireland squad to take part in the 2013 IRB Tbilisi Cup in Georgia in May 2013 and started all three games.

Made his long-awaited Heineken Cup debut in January 2014 as a starter away to Gloucester and impressed as Munster prevailed on a scoreline of 20-7 and secured a quarter final place.

Named on Emerging Ireland squad for tour to Romania, June 2014.

Played in Emerging Ireland’s 2014 Nations Cup winning campaign.

Won his first Irish senior cap against Georgia in November's Guinness Series, also playing a part in Ireland's victory over Australia a week later.

Signed a two year contract extension in December 2014 that will see him stay with the province until at least June 2017.

Named in Joe Schmidt's 46-man extended Ireland squad for the 6 Nations but sustained a wrist injury in Munster's final ERCC pool game against Sale Sharks and required surgery.  He was ruled out for the remainder of the season and returned in time for Season 2015/16.

Featured heavily across 2015/16, making 25 appearances and winning inclusion in the Ireland training squad for Round 3 of the RBS 6 Nations.
