Munster Rugby Academy graduate, he's been a senior contracted player now since the 2009/10 season.

Named Munster's Player of the Year after a hugely impressive 2012/13 campaign.

Despite suffering two injuries, O'Donnell impressed in each of his 21 outings scoring four tries in the process to win the award ahead of Dave Kilcoyne and Simon Zebo.

Earned his first Irish cap against the USA in June '13 but sustained a knee injury against Zebre in the league in September.

O'Donnell returned to action ahead of schedule and made his comeback as a substitute for Munster A in the B & I Cup game against Plymouth in December.

Signed a two-year IRFU contract extension in November 2013 that will keep him at Munster until at least 2016.

Named in the Ireland squad for the 2014 Six Nations and made his Six Nations debut as a substitute in the opener against Scotland. Came off the bench again a week later against Wales with Ireland going on to win the Six Nations in Paris.

Played in Emerging Ireland’s 2014 Nations Cup winning campaign in June.

Featured in Ireland's victories over South Africa and Georgia during November's Guinness Series and made his first 6 Nations start against Italy in February, scoring his first try in the tournament. O'Donnell also featured against England and was part of the travelling squad that claimed the 6 Nations trophy at Murrayfield.

Was selected on the 2014/15 Guinness PRO12 Dream Team and received a nomination for the 2015 Munster Player of the Year.

Sustained a hip dislocation in Ireland's World Cup warm up game against Wales in August, an injury that would see him miss the England 2015.

Made a return to action ahead of schedule against Leinster at Thomond Park in December and excellent form saw him selected for the 2016 Six Nations where he featured against Wales, France and Scotland.

Signed a new deal in December 2016 that will see him remain with the province until at least June 2019.
