Sweetnam from Dunmanway, Co. Cork joins the Munster Rugby Academy for the 2012/13 season after impressing for the Munster U20s in the Interprovincial series.

The 19 year old played his schools rugby with Bandon Grammar and previous to that played his club rugby with Dunmanway, he also represented Munster U18 Schools and Munster U19s.

Darren is widely know in Cork for his hurling credentials playing with club side Dohenys GAA and lining out for the Cork Senior Hurlers in the Allianz League and the Championship in 2012.

He also represented Ireland in hockey at U16s. 

Sweetnam made his Munster A debut in the B&I Cup against Plymouth Albion in January 2013.

Member of the 2013 RBS 6 Nations U20s Squad.
