Responsible for the Senior and Munster A squads, Costello was named as Munster A Head Coach for the 2011/12 season, taking over from Anthony Foley. Born in Dingle Co. Kerry, Ian has lived in Limerick for thirty years. He went to school in Ardscoil Ris and went onto complete an Honours Degree in Sport Science at the University of Limerick.

A former centre and out-half, Costello previously worked as an Elite Player Development Officer with the Munster Rugby Academy and then went on to become Director of Rugby for UL Bohemian RFC.
