Sport and physical activity in Europe: Preparing and sustaining effective professionals and volunteers

GOALS OF THE FORUM

The role of sport and physical activity in the social and economic development of the European Union is increasing. The Forum will explore how this role can be maximised, with an emphasis on the preparation and qualification of effective professionals and volunteers. Specifically, the Forum will: Outline the emerging framework for sport and physical activity in the European Union, including labour market demands, Identify the requirements for the qualification of effective professionals and volunteers in the coaching; health and fitness; physical education and sport management strands of the industry industry, Promote interaction between the different strands of the sport and physical activity sector Examine the European and global implications of the conference theme in coaching and coach education

The Forum will provide latest thinking, policy and practice to practitioners, education/ training providers, researchers, employers and policy-makers in the areas of coaching; health and fitness; physical education and sport management.

PARTNERS The Forum is coordinated by the National Coaching and Training Centre, Ireland and directed by the ENSSEE Forum Steering Groups. The Forum will include the bi-ennial Global Meeting of the International Council for Coach Education (ICCE) and the European Health and Fitness Association (EHFA). The annual meeting of the AEHESIS Project will also be included in the event. The Forum is also supported by the European Observatoire of Sports Employment (EOSE).

WORKSHOPS Abstracts are invited for workshop sessions in the following areas: 1. Physical activity and the pre-school/early primary school child 2. Physical education and sport for the primary age child 3. The challenges of adolescence in sport and physical activity 4. Adult recreation and participation 5. Striving for excellence in sport 6. Good practice in education and training programmes in coaching; health and fitness; physical education and sport management 7. The NEW European Qualification Framework and its implication for the VET system in Europe

The closing date for submission of abstracts (500 words max) is 24 June 2005. Workshop sessions will be 30 minutes in duration, including questions and discussion. Abstracts should be submitted via email to ensseeforum@ul.ie.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS Abstracts for poster presentations are invited by 24 June (500 words max). The bi-ennial ENSSEE poster presentation awards will be made in the following categories: ICCE will make an award to the best poster presentation in coaching and coach education. Abstracts should be submitted via email to ensseeforum@ul.ie.

Opportunities will also be provided to attend the 8th National Sports Forum (Ireland) which will be held concurrently with the event.
