These two old rival schools played a very exciting and tightly contested game at Musgrave Park. After five minutes Christians, who started the stronger, opened the scoring with a penalty by outhalf Mark O'Donovan. Pres. replied on the 14 minute mark with a penalty by rightwing Eoin Cotter. Some good tactical kicked and use of the wind from both sides kept the game moving.
Just before the halftime break Tim Kenneally finished off a well worked movement to score in the corner to give Pres.the lead of 8-3 at the halfway mark. Immediately on the resumption Christians went on the attack, which culminated in a try by Steve Holland, who also played very well throughout. A chip ahead by Dermot Collins was intercepted by Scott Deasy, who ran 60 metres before being brought down.
On the 15 minute mark Owen Cotter, Pres. kicked his side into the lead with a penalty under the post. Then followed a period of intense pressure by Christians which failed to yield any scoring opportunity to them. The game ended 11-8 in favour of Pres. Peter O'Driscoll and Shane O'Sullivan (capt.) showed up well for Christians as did Dermot Collins.
Fullback Shane Costigan, Tim Kenneally, the try scorer, Rory Love and Philip Hogan, scrum half, gave Trojan service to Pres.
