Munster Come From Behind To See Off Edinburgh
16 April 2005, 9:23 pm
Just as they'd done the previous weekend Munster gave their Scottish opponents the benefit of an early lead and then clawed their way back this time to end up 30-20 winners against Edinburgh.
Munster gave Edinburgh a 13 point lead at a well attended Thomond Park and then clawed their way back to end up 30-20 winners a result that means they play Edinburgh again in the Celtic Cup quarter final.

That match will take place on the weekend of April 29th/30th and will be played once again in Thomond Park.

Edinburgh opened with a try from Phil Godman, and eight points from the boot of Chris Paterson to go 13 points clear by the 9th minute. And they held that lead until the 25th minute when Munster Lion John Hayes rummbled over with the help of the pack.

Alan Quinlan rounded off a good opening half with a try in the 38th minute, a score that started with a superb Peter Stringer break which was carried on first by Denis Leamy and then Trevor Hogan who off-loaded to the supporting Quinlan to score wide on the right.

Anthony Horgan was next to cross, Stringer again involved in the lead-up and Leamy scored the first of his brace at the start of the third quarter to push Munster into a 22-13 lead.

However, Edinburgh refused to buckle and they made it a two point game when Alasdair Dickinson scored a try in the 58th minute which Paterson did well to convert from the touchline.

Leamy blocked an attempted clearance and gathered to score try number five and with the game in injury time, replacement Paul Burke landed the penalty to ensure victory.
