Ard Scoil Ris, Limerick become the first school to qualify for the Avonmore Supermilk Munster Junior Cup semi finals, after a comprehensive win over Newtown School, Waterford on Tuesday at Waterpark.

The teams remained close in the first half, with a scoreline of 7-6 shortly before half time. Both of Newtown’s scores came from two penalties, with Glenn Deacon putting their only points of the game on the board.

Ard Scoil Ris scored 5 tries in total, with Barry Sheahan in the back row leading the charge with two tries. Also scoring for Ard Scoil Ris were Adam Henniger, Johnny Deegan and Paul Gleeson also touching down.

Ard Scoil Ris however, dominated after scoring immediately before half time, and again at the restart, going on to notch up an impressive 31 points before the final whistle.

Having come into the final stages of the Junior Cup through the qualifying rounds, beating St. Caoimhins Community College, Clare, to become the B Qualifiers, Newtown School can take some consolation in the fact that they have yet to play Castletroy College in the Mungret Shield Final.

Ard Scoil Ris now go onto play the winners of St. Munchin’s College, Limerick, and Presentation Brothers College, Cork in the Avonmore Supermilk Junior Cup semi final.

Thursday 3rd February: Castletroy College (Limerick) V Christian Brothers College (Cork), Dooradoyle, 2.30pm

Admission:

There will be an admission charge for Junior Cup matches from the Quarter final stages onwards. Adults will be admitted at a rate of €5, students €3 for the quarter finals and semi finals. The rates for adults at the Avonmore Supermilk Junior Cup final is €7, while students will be admitted for €4.
