"Carl's been on a course of antibiotics this week to deal with an infection in his foot," said All Blacks coach Graham Henry. "He's responding to treatment, but it's a slow process. We were hopeful he'd come right in time to play this weekend, but that's not the case. We are fortunate to have a player of Greg's quality who can step in."

Meanwhile,Auckland have named a strong squad to test the touring Lions rugby team in the lead-up to the third test in Auckland on Saturday week.
