Munster squad member Martin McPhail helped the Ireland Sevens Squad book their place in next year's Hong Kong Sevens when they finished in third place in the qualifiers played at the Principes de Espa a stadium in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Ireland beat Scotland 14-7 in the third place play off having earlier been beaten 19-12 by Italy in the semi final. In the quarter final McPhail was among the try scorers as Ireland dispatched Georgia 26-12.
