Munster Youths improved on last weeks performance against a strong Rockwell XV when they deservedly defeated a well drilled Irish Exiles XV at Thomond park last Sunday.

The Exiles having the pick of the top clubs in the UK was always going to be a daunting encounter for the young men in red. The Exiles dominated the game in the first half but the Youths defended well. A penalty against the Exiles prop inside the opposition half gave Ian Hanley the opportunity to open the scoring for Munster. However the Exiles pressure paid off with five minutes to the half time break when a pass out wide and an overlap saw the winger over the line for the opening try which was unconverted.

The Munster Youths played the stronger rugby in the second half when within ten minutes and three phases of play Sammy Francais doubled skipped to the Winger out wide and send Ian Hanley over for Munsters opening try. Hanley was unlucky to miss the conversion, however he kicked a long range penalty ten minutes from the final whistle. Munster finished the stronger side in this encounter and had two opportunities to score before the end.

Final score:

Munster Youths 11 - Irish Exiles 5
