P.B.C. defeated Rockwell in the semi final of the Bowen Shield at Wilton 12-6 to set up a meeting against Crescent College Comprehensive at a Cork venue next Wednesday 7th December.
Playing with the advantage of the strong wind in the opening half, Rockwell raced into an early 6-0 lead with penalties by out half Aidan Moynihan. Pres’ were on the defensive for most of the opening half and in a rare attack skipper Michael Murphy scored a try under the posts and Conor Flanagan converted for a 7-6 lead after twenty two minutes. Pres’ extended their advantage a minute into the second half when full back Paddy Hegarty cut through the Rockwell defence to score. Rockwell had the better of the exchanges after that but could not find a gap through a solid Pres’ defence.
In the replay of the opening round in the Avonmore Milk Munster Schools Junior Cup Midleton College defeated Bandon Grammar 16-3 at Midleton. Ross Donovan and Kieran Simpson scored tries for Midleton and Josh Foley kicked two penalties. Bobby Smith replied with a penalty for Bandon.
