A Munster Under 17 combined selection of players from the Regional Development Squad and Munster 'B' Schools recently attended a 11 a-side blitz at Cork Institute of Technology grounds.
Garryowen retained their Division 1A status with a 23-9 win over Buccaneers at Dooradoyle. Three penalties by David Connellan to two by Alan Gaughan had the Connacht side 9-6 ahead at half time. Tries by James Rael and Paul Neville both converted by Gaughan who also added a penalty saw victory for the home side.
Bective Rangers defeated Clonakilty 19-15 at The Vale in Division 2 to secure a play off place against Bruff to decide the final place in Division 1B next season. Alfie Harte and Darragh Lynch scored tries for the West Cork side and Denis McCarthy kicked a conversion and penalty.
A losing bonus point was not enough for Old Crescent to avoid finishing bottom of Division 2 after their 21-17 away defeat by DLSP. JP Ruiz scored a try for the Limerick side and Mark Woods and Robert Moloney scored two penalties each. The Limerick side must now play Banbridge in a play off to decide the final place in Division 2A next season.
Despite losing at home to Corinthians 27-10, Thomond still maintained their status. David Foley scored a try which Craig Airey converted and Derek Warton added a drop goal.
Having been challenging for promotion for most of the campaign Midleton ended up in eleventh place after they lost away to Queens University 35-15. David Smyth and Kevin Brierly scored tries for the East Cork side and Jeff Hitchmough kicked a conversion and penalty.
In Division Three Nenagh Ormond won the Munster derby with a last minute penalty from David Delaney to give them a 23-20 victory over Sunday’s Well at Musgrave Park. James Kingston and Michael Kennedy scored tries for the Tipperary side and Delaney contributed two conversions and three penalties. Willie Devane and Peter Brehony were the ‘Well try scorers and Danny O’Shea kicked two conversions, a drop goal and a penalty.
Highfield finished their campaign with a 36-15 away win over bottom side Connemara. James Cronin, David Kelly, Michael Dillane, David Walker and Darragh Buckley-Barry were Highfield’s try scorers and Colin Mahony kicked four conversions and a penalty.
