Munster Rugby in conjunction with Frank Daly of the Limerick Youth Services recently ran a pilot programme named "Youth Pro Play" as part of the Limerick Regeneration rugby initiatives.
The pilot programme was designed to give selected young people from Garda diversion projects an opportunity to experience the ‘life of a professional rugby player’.

In total the programme ran for 5 weeks with selected participants taking part in two training sessions a week.

Early morning sessions were based around ‘strength and conditioning’ modules with an emphasis on educating participants about the important lifestyle choices professional athletes have to make.

This was followed by evening sessions which looked at developing the participants’ rugby skills both individually and collectively.

Participants were recently presented with awards for their dedication to the programme with approximately twelve to sixteen youths in regular attendance.

The programme was a very successful collaboration between Munster Rugby, Limerick Youth Service and the Garda Diversion Projects based around Limerick city.
