Old Christians continued their good run with a 25-21 victory over Newport at the Tipperary venue. Paddy O’Donoghue and Stuart Lee were try scorers for the winners. Lee also added a drop goal and Stephen O’Brien kicked four penalties.
The semi final pairing for this competition which will be played at the end of the month are – Kanturk v Youghal and Galbally v Old Christians.
Mallow and Carrick-on-Suir will meet in the Martin O’Sullivan Cup final on the October weekend after both sides won their semi final ties.
Mallow traveled to Abbeyfeale and defeated the home side 32-18. Leonard Browne scored two of Mallow’s five tries with Neil Lucey, Rory McSharry and Dave Walsh getting one each. Brian Morris kicked a conversion and penalty and Michael Sweeney also added a conversion. Sean Scannell replied with two tries for Abbeyfeale and Paul O’Sullivan kicked a conversion and two penalties.
Carrick-on-Suir defeated Waterford City 15-11 in the other semi final. Peter Downey and David Kiersey scored tries for the winners. Michael Cronin added a conversion and James Wallace kicked a penalty. Damian Kennedy replied with a try for Waterford and Aaron Foskin kicked two penalties.
In the Munster Seconds League Northern Section U.L. Bohemian recorded their second victory with a 40-6 win over Bruff. Paul Rowley scored two of the winner’s six tries with Giles Boland, Anthony Hartigan, Harry duStacpoole and Luke Holmes all getting one apiece. Derek Farrell converted five of the tries.
Thomond continued their good run with a 13-12 win over Young Munster. Henry O’Neill scored a try for the winners and David Guerin kicked a conversion and two penalties.
In the other game in this section Nenagh Ormond defeated Old Crescent 28-18.
In the Southern Section Cork Constitution defeated U.C.C. 31-18. Matthew Ross, Peter Kelleher and Simon Zebo scored tries for the winners and Zebo kicked two conversions and four penalties. Michael Lenihan Jason Carton replied with tries for the College, Ronan O’Sullivan kicked a conversion and a penalty and Colin O’Brien also added a penalty.
Highfield had a surprising 40-17 win over Dolphin at Musgrave Park and Clonakilty defeated Midleton 34-7 at the Towns Park.
