ODM Munster Senior Cup Roundup

Cashel caused a major upset in the ODM Munster Senior Cup opening round when they knocked out Nenagh Ormond 6-0 in the Tipperary derby at the Spafield.
Cashel, who last played in this competition four seasons ago and reached the semi finals, could be set for another run in this seasons competition. Following their two Junior league titles this will be a big boost to the club after their failure to book a place in the AIB All Ireland League. The sides were scoreless at half time and a penalty by Pat OConnor gave Cashel the lead. Darragh OBrien added a second penalty shortly after. Cashel will now meet Young Munster in next weeks quarter final tie at Clifford Park following the Cookies 16-9 away win over Bruff. The home side led 9-0 at half time with three penalties from Brian Cahill. The First Division side hit back with a try from Shane ONeill, a conversion and drop goal by Alan Kingsley and two penalties by Ray Moloney. Holders Cork Constitution easily overcame Sundays Well 39-0 at Musgrave Park. The winners playing with a strong wind in the opening half led 7-0 at the break with a try from Robert Quinn which Richard Lane converted. Con took full advantage in the opening minutes of the second half when the home side were down to fourteen because of a yellow card and another player down injured to add a try from Tim Kenneally and a conversion and penalty by Lane for a 17-0 lead. Than in a ten minute spell midway through the half the visitors crossed for four tries with Cronan Healy, Merle OConnell, Peter OMahony and Darragh Lyons all touching down and Lane added one conversion. Thomond will now visit Temple Hill next week after the Limerick side defeated Highfield 23-11 at Fitzgerald Park. The home side led 15-5 at the break with tries from Warren Kelly and Daragh ONeill and a conversion and penalty by Ger Finnucane. Aidan Reece replied with a try for the visitors. Kelly added another try for the winners and Finnucane kicked a penalty, while Colin Mahony kicked two penalties for the Woodleigh Park outfit. On the other side of the draw Dolphin won the game of the day with an 18-13 victory Garryowen at Dooradoyle to continue their good start to the season. The winners led 12-3 at the break with Niall ODriscoll scoring two tries and Barry Keeshan kicking a conversion. Gerry Hurley replied with a penalty for the home side. Keeshan added two penalties for Dolphin and Garryowen had a try and conversion from Willie Staunton and a penalty from Connor Murray. Shannon will now face Dolphin in the last eight after their 47-10 victory over Clonakilty. The winners had built up a 33-3 lead by half time and had tries from Mark ODriscoll (2), Tadgh Bennett, Mossy Lawlor, John OConnor, Eoghan Grace and David Quinlan. Bennett converted six of the seven tries. The home side had a try from J.D. OMahony and a conversion and penalty by Kurth Morath. U.C.C. played their first game of the season when they came from 9-7 down at half time to defeat Midleton 16-12 at the Towns Park. Willie Devane scored a try for the winners and Brian Derham kicked two penalties and a conversion and Pat Parfrey added a drop goal. Jeff Hitchmough kicked three penalties for the East Cork side and Jason Holland kicked a drop goal. U.L. Bohemian will face U.C.C. in the last of the quarter finals after the Limerick side defeated Old Crescent 25-3 at Annacotty. Danny Riordan scored two tries for the winners and Paul Rowley and Edwin Torrie got one apiece. Torrie added a conversion and a penalty. Crescents only reply was a penalty from Mark Woods.
