Crescent College Comprehensive are on course to defend their SEAT Munster Schools Senior Cup title following a 23-8 victory over Castletroy College today at Rosbrien.
The Cork side dominated the opening half and led 17-9 at half time and despite a come back by the Limerick side, the home side held out for a great victory.
At Temple Hill holder's Cork Constitution saw off the challenge of Thomond emerging winners 25-6. Ian Nagle, Cyprian Jouve and Stephen Archer scored tries for the winners, Richard Lane kicked a penalty and two conversions and Darragh Lyons added a drop goal. Thomond had a penalty from Ger Finnucane and a drop goal by Kevin O'Mahony.
It was a good weekend for the Kerry clubs in the opening round of the Martin O'Sullivan Cup with Killarney being the only side to lose as they lost their local derby tie away to Castleisland 6-0. Mark Connolly kicked two penalties for the winners.
Corca Dhuibhne made a winning start to their life as a Junior club when they travelled to Dungarvan and beat the home side 30-3. John Curran scored two tries, three penalties and three conversions for the Kerry Gaeltacht side and Diarmuid Crowley also scored a try. Dungarvan's only reply was a penalty by Jim Curran.
Killorglin defeated Douglas 28-22 at Moneygourney. Brian Gannon scored twenty of his side's points with two tries, two conversions and two penalties. Tommy Moriarty also added a try for the winners and John Ahern kicked a drop goal. Dan O'Connor replied with two tries for the home side, Alan Lyne got one and Gary Purtill kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Abbeyfeale defeated Shandon 20-13, the other newcomers to junior rugby at Whitechurch. Tere Vickridge scored two tries for the winners and Conor Prendiville got one. David Prendiville kicked a drop goal and Paul O'Sullivan added a conversion. Andrew Quinlan scored a try for the home side and Barry Leahy kicked a conversion and two penalties.
In the other ties Mallow had to come from 3-0 down at half time to beat Presentation 12-8 at Rathuard. Rory McSharry scored two tries for the visitors and Jimmy Glynn converted one.
Carrick-on-Suir advanced 22-15 away to Kilrush. Dylan Davies scored two tries for the winners and Ian Mullins got one. James Wallace kicked two conversions and a penalty. Kilrush replied with tries from Rory McLoughlin, Michael Maguire and Paul Conway.
Waterford City proved too strong for Fermoy emerging 20-7 winners. Damien Kennedy scored two tries for the winners and Aaron Foskin got a try, penalty and conversion. Jim Mackessy scored a late try for Fermoy which Joe Lee converted.
Charleville had a 31-10 home win over Scariff. Alan Howard scored three tries for the home side and Conor O'Brien and Peader Cronin got one each. Shane Corkery converted three of the tries.
Holder's U.L. Bohemian booked their place in the final of the Transfield Cup with a 29-7 home victory over Thomond. Ross Butler scored three tries for the winners and Finbar Ryan got one. Sean Kelly converted three of the tries and also added a penalty. Jamie English replied with a try and conversion for the visitors.
Kinsale booked their place in the semi Final of the Cork County Cup with a deserved 22-5 win over Youghal. Ian O'Leary scored a try for the winners and Jason Murphy kicked four penalties, a conversion and drop goal. Gareth Horgan got a consolation try for the East Cork side.
Clonmel won the Garryowen Cup on a 15-10 scoreline over Galbally. Clonmel had tries from Conor Cooney and Phil Corby, with Cooney kicking a penalty and Morgan Lyons adding a conversion. Tommy Ryan scored a try for the Second Division side and Liam Casey kicked a penalty and conversion.
Clanwilliam defeated Thurles 20-15 in the Mansergh Cup. Clanwilliam had tries from Ciaran Merrigan and Padraig Ryan and Willie O'Dwyer converted both and also kicked two penalties. Eoin Dwyer scored two tries for the home side and Donogh Duggan got one.
Cork Constitution and Highfield will contest this season's Dennehy Cup final. Highfield defeated Sunday's Well 7-0 with a try by Gearoid O'Sullivan which Brian O'Hea converted.
Cork Constitution ran in seven tries in their 42-0 home win over Carrigaline. Rory O'Sullivan scored three of their tries with Conor Desmond, Killian O'Connor, John O'Donovan and Billy Newman getting one each. Robert Johnson kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Ballincollig defeated Old Christians 13-10 in the O'Sullivan Cup. Daragh Lancaster scored two tries for the winners and Eoin Cahill kicked a penalty. Dave Heaphy scored a try for Old Christians, Conor O'Halloran converted and Fionn O'Sullivan added a drop goal.
