By Trish Drinan
Round Two of this year's ODM Munster Senior Challenge Cup, sponsored by ODM Accountants takes place this weekend, with fourteen teams in action, all vying for a quarter final place.
With some restructuring having taken place since last year, Round One featured just one game which took place last weekend.  Thomond and Sundays Well faced off in what proved to be a thrilling game at Fitzgerald Park.  A try from the Wells captain Ian Carroll and the conversion and a penalty from Jonathan Lynch secured a 10-6 win for the visitors, as well as a home fixture against Waterpark in the second round.

This weekend seven second round matches will take place, with last years beaten finalists Cork Constitution already through to the quarter finals.  Last years champions Garryowen travel to Midleton on Saturday to start the defence of their title, and will be hoping to add to their 36 Munster Senior Cup titles.

Bruff are home to UL Bohemians, while last years semi finalists Clonakilty host Shannon.  Shannon will be aiming to restore their dominance on this competition after their bid for an eighth title in a row last season came to a halt when they fell to Cork Constitution in the quarter finals last year.  Theres a double bill at Musgrave Park, with Dolphin hosting Young Munster and Sundays Well hosting Waterpark at the same time.  Old Crescent will welcome last years semi finalists Nenagh Ormond while at the Mardyke there is an all Cork derby with UCC and Highfield battling for a place in the quarter finals.

SPONSORS

ODM Accountants, North Main Street, Bandon, Co. Cork, are sponsoring this prestigious competition for the third year in a row.  The company are long standing supporters of Munster Rugby and have close links with local club Bandon RFC.  All three partners, Niall O Driscoll, Past President of the Munster Branch, his brother Gearóid O Driscoll and Dan Murphy are all members of the West Cork club which is one of the oldest in the province at 125 years this season.  The Munster Senior Challenge Cup has a particular place in the hearts of all those involved in Bandon RFC, as the club won the very first Munster Senior Challenge Cup in 1886, defeating Garryowen one try to nil after a replay.
