Munster Rugby Womens Department were contacted by Galbally Youth Development Officer Ed Hennessey to give a hand to entice girls into playing youths rugby in the club and decided that the best way to do it, is to have a 6th class School Girls Skills day.

On the 11th March around 40 girls turned up from the local country schools ranging in age from 11 to 13 years at Galbally RFC.

The girls showed an abundance of talent as most of them are avid footballers and these skills were evident as the day progressed

The girls were taken through the different drills - Tackle, Fall, Scrum, Lineout, Passing and Handling, allowing the girls to see the game in its purest form and not just the tag element of the game that most Primary school girls are used to.

The idea of the 6th class girls Skills day is that, these girls are at an age when they are about to leave mini and play girls underage rugby also with the addition of 7s contact rugby into Secondary schools this is a perfect opportunity to give the girls a head start before leaving primary.

It is part of the Development pathway now undertaken by the Munster Womens Dept to ensure the increased levels of participation in clubs and schools.

As always all had a great day and the myth that girls do not like to get muddy was quickly dispelled as the tackling got under way.
